Medicare Open Enrollment Begins October 15 – Secure Your Coverage
OKLAHOMA CITY – Medicare Open Enrollment begins October 15 and runs until December 7. The Medicare Assistance Program (MAP) at the Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) is urging you to review your coverage options for health and drug insurance.
“Now is the time to take a good look at your coverage and make sure it meets your needs, allows you to see your doctors and covers your medications,” Medicare Assistance Program Director Ray Walker said. “Reviewing your plan options and making any necessary changes early will ensure the continuation of your coverage.”
Who can enroll in Medicare?
- Individuals aged 65 or older (or turning 65).
- People under age 65 who have received Social Security Disability Insurance for 24 months, those with end-stage renal disease, or those diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
When is Medicare Open Enrollment?
- October 15 – December 7 – The annual window to review and change Medicare health and prescription drug plans for the following year.
- Enroll or request changes by December 7 to have coverage begin January 1.
Do I need to change Medicare plans?
- Review your plan’s Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) and Evidence of Coverage (EOC), which should have come to you in the mail or electronically in late September or early October.
- If your current plan still meets your needs in 2027 and remains available, no action is needed. However, it’s always a good idea to shop around to see if anything new might be available that might work better for you. Plan premiums, copays, and benefits may have changed.
- Talk to your doctors and other important providers to confirm which insurance plans they plan to continue accepting in the coming year.
- Some beneficiaries may have received notice that the plan in which they’re currently enrolled will not be available in 2027. Those individuals may have additional options to purchase a Medicare supplement policy without the worry of being denied.
