Oklahoma Insurance Department to Open Next Round of Strengthen Oklahoma Homes Grant Applications on July 13

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma homeowners statewide will have another opportunity to strengthen their homes against severe weather and reduce long-term insurance costs through the Oklahoma Insurance Department’s (OID) Strengthen Oklahoma Homes (SOH) Grant Program.

Applications for the next round of funding will open Monday, July 13, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. CT. Eligible homeowners can apply for grants of up to $10,000 to upgrade to the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) FORTIFIED Roof™ – High Wind and Hail designation, a nationally recognized standard designed to help homes better withstand Oklahoma’s high winds, hail, and severe storms while qualifying homeowners for insurance premium discounts.

The program continues to deliver measurable results for Oklahoma homeowners. Since its launch, the Strengthen Oklahoma Homes Program has certified more than 400 IBHS FORTIFIED Roof™ – High Wind and Hail homes and has invested more than $4 million in residential mitigation efforts, helping homeowners better protect their homes while reducing future storm losses.

What the Strengthen Oklahoma Homes Program Offers

The Strengthen Oklahoma Homes Program offers grants of up to $10,000 to eligible homeowners who wish to upgrade their roofs to the IBHS FORTIFIED Roof™ – High Wind and Hail designation. These enhanced construction standards strengthen the roof system through improved installation methods that exceed typical building code requirements, increasing a home’s resistance to severe weather and allowing homeowners to qualify for substantial insurance premium discounts.

The statewide expansion follows the program’s continued success in helping Oklahoma homeowners invest in stronger, more resilient homes. As participation has grown, the program has demonstrated strong demand while providing lasting benefits to families across the state.

How Oklahoma Homeowners Can Take Advantage of the Grant Program

Applications open Monday, July 13, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. CT at oid.ok.gov/okready. Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis as funding allows, making early preparation essential.

To qualify, homeowners must have a homestead exemption on file with their county assessor.

OID emphasizes that mitigation remains one of the most effective ways to reduce storm damage and control long-term insurance costs.
