Oklahoma Insurance Department Celebrates 500th FORTIFIED Home Through Strengthen Oklahoma Homes Program
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) today announced the completion of the 500th home through its OKReady, Strengthen Oklahoma Homes (SOH) Program, marking a significant milestone in the program’s efforts to help Oklahoma homeowners build stronger, safer, and more resilient homes.
The milestone represents more than 500 certified roofing projects. It reflects the growing number of Oklahoma homeowners choosing to invest in resilience and take proactive steps to better protect their homes and families from the state’s frequent severe weather.
Through the program, eligible homeowners may receive up to $10,000 in grant funding to upgrade their primary residence to the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) FORTIFIED Home – Roof™ standard. FORTIFIED roofs are designed to provide increased protection against the high winds, wind-driven rain and hail frequently experienced across Oklahoma.
Since the program launched, SOH has brought together homeowners, contractors, evaluators, insurance partners and other stakeholders to help make resilient construction more accessible throughout the state. The program’s growth reflects both increasing homeowner interest and the continued expansion of the network of trained professionals supporting FORTIFIED construction in Oklahoma.
“This milestone belongs to everyone who has helped make this program successful,” said Commissioner Glen Mulready.
“We are grateful to the homeowners who have chosen to participate, the contractors and evaluators who have committed to the FORTIFIED standard, and the many partners who have supported the program’s growth. Together, we are helping build a more resilient Oklahoma—one home at a time,” said Ashley Scott, Director of the Strengthen Oklahoma Homes program.
The program has already demonstrated meaningful benefits for participating homeowners. In addition to increased protection from severe weather, homeowners who receive a FORTIFIED designation may qualify for insurance premium discounts. Earlier program participants have reported an average annual savings of approximately $750 on their insurance premiums following certification.
Reaching the 500-home milestone marks another step toward the program’s larger goal of helping communities across Oklahoma become better prepared for severe weather. With each completed FORTIFIED project, Strengthen Oklahoma Homes continues to expand access to resilient construction and demonstrate how proactive investments can help reduce risk, protect property and potentially lower the long-term cost of homeownership.
